Queensland Air-conditioning installation - Electrical

Who can do what?

An electrical contracting licence is required to install an air-conditioning unit.
Only an electrical mechanic can install wiring between the inside and outside units or perform installation work on the circuit supplying an air-conditioner.
A restricted electrical licence is intended to allow a non-electrical tradesperson to safely perform simple electrical maintenance tasks for their trade.
A refrigeration mechanic holding a restricted electrical licence cannot perform electrical installation work.
A refrigeration mechanic with a restricted licence can disconnect and reconnect electrical equipment and replace like with like electrical components of air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment.

Electricity is dangerous and electrical safety inspections have revealed incorrect and unsafe air-conditioning installations carried out under restricted licences. Severe penalties( http://www.justice.qld.gov.au/fair-and-safe-work/electrical-safety/law-and-penalties/penalties ) may be incurred for unlicensed work.
